FG orders the probe of alleged negligence of the victims of accidents at FMC Abuja

The Minister of State for Health and Social Wellness, dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako has directed a full investigation into the alleged negligence of the victims of accidents at the emergency unit of the Feder Medical Center (FMC) Jabi, Abuja.

In a video that was on social media during the weekend, someone was felt complaining that they have hurried some victims of accidents that saw on the road of the structure, but that the staff was slow in attending them.

The video showed topics between the good Samaritan and a hospital staff one of which spoke of the unavailability of gloves. One of the victims was seen in a car while the others were finally witnessed in the emergency unit.

In a declaration on Sunday, Obadiah Nk Gana, head of the public relations of the FMC Abuja, said: “We were made aware of an online video that negatively describes our hospital. In response, we started an in -depth investigation to discover the facts that surround this accident.”

He said the preliminary results of the hospital indicate the following:

– The emergency department had an adequate offer of medical consumption materials, including latex gloves, contrary to the statements made in the video.

– The equipment and drugs for resuscitation were sufficient.

– There was no lack of patient transfer equipment, including wheel trolleys and chairs.

– The interaction with the staff in service and other interested parties is currently underway.

He said the results of the investigations will be made available to the public.

He said: “The management undertakes to provide a complete relationship of our investigation once completed. The Federal Medical Center, Abuja, is proud of its open-door policy. We have more patients feedback channels, including several telephone numbers displayed in the hospital, QR codes and e-mail contacts”.

While apologizing for any anguish or discomfort caused, the professional assured that the feedback is taken seriously.

“We appreciate the trust placed in us and we are committed to providing quality assistance with empathy and compassion. We appreciate feedback and we will work to improve the quality of our services,” he said.

Gana said that in addition to managing an indigent medical fund to assist disadvantaged patients with hospital bills, the hospital has successfully treated numerous unconscious patients and has returned them safely to their relatives with the help of its social workers.
