Fire destroys federal secretariat in Nasarawa

A fire on Saturday engulfed parts of the Muhammad Sidi Bage Federal Secretariat in Lafia, Nasarawa State.

However, the fire that broke out around 4pm on Saturday was contained with the combined efforts of the Federal and State Fire Services.

A Federal Fire Service official told reporters at the scene that the cause of the fire, which affected the second floor of the three-story complex, would be investigated.

Meanwhile, the state Police Commissioner, Shetima Mohammed, who was on the ground to assess the situation, said police personnel had been deployed to cordon off the facility.

Mohammed noted that the move was to prevent hoodlums from taking advantage of the situation to vandalize offices in the secretariat.
