Former Governor Makarfi urged Tinubu to declare a state of emergency due to insecurity

Former governor of Kaduna State, Ahmed Makarfi, has advised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to declare a national emergency over insecurity to effectively address the escalating situation.

The former governor who spoke while interacting with journalists on Sunday in Kaduna, described the current security situation in the country as approaching a state of war.

According to him, “The reality on the ground is that security challenges are getting bigger. So, for me, rather than criticizing, it’s more of an advice.

“The president, in collaboration with state governments, must declare a national security emergency. Governance must change so that priority number one, two and three is security in all aspects,” he said.

Makarfi, former national chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, also opposed the move to cancel registration of political parties ahead of the 2027 elections, and stressed that parties that adhere to the guidelines of the Independent National Election Commission should be allowed to participate in the elections.
