Tragedy struck Rivers as the mother, her four children burned to death

There was tragedy in Okochiri community, Okrika Local Government Area of ​​Rivers State on Friday when a mother and her four children burned to death in their residence.

The cause of the fire is not yet known for certain, but a source claims the fire was caused by bad fuel.

The Commander of the Civilian Joint Task Force in Okrika LGA, Igwe Godswill, confirmed the incident, but said that details were still unclear at the time of filing this report.

God willing, the bodies of the woman and her four children were found lifeless when he and the team arrived at the scene.

He said, “There are no exact details about what happened. But when we got there, we saw about four children and their mother, five in total, burned and dead.

“Police have arrived and are taking exact details of what happened. It is very sad that this is happening again in our community.”

Godswill added that local youth had extinguished the fire before his arrival, although the victim was believed to have died before the fire was extinguished.

He called for an investigation to find out the exact cause of the incident.

When contacted, Rivers State Police Command spokesperson, Blessing Agabe confirmed the incident, saying the mother and three children died.

Agabe, the Assistant Superintendent of Police, also revealed that other occupants of the building suffered injuries, while property worth thousands of naira was destroyed in the blaze.

He added that an investigation has been initiated to ascertain the immediate and long-term causes of the incident.

“Yes, there was a fire incident which resulted in a woman and her three children tragically dying, while others were injured.

“Property estimated to be worth thousands of naira was also destroyed in the fire. Investigations are ongoing to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine the cause of the fire,” the state police draftsman said.
