Benue State Governor, Gabriel Suswam, said on Friday that he has no plans to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Suswam rubbished the rumors in a statement issued by his media aide, Mr. Bede Bartholomew, in Makurdi.
Governor Hyacinth Alia has invited stakeholders in the state to attend a state dinner, and the development sparked insinuations that Suswam would switch to the APC during the event.
Bede said the former member of Parliament only attended the dinner and denied insinuations that his leadership had defected to the APC.
He said: “Some time ago, I received telephone calls from well-meaning Benue citizens and leaders, alerting me to a breaking news item on Benue social media stating that the former governor of Benue, Senator Suswam, had defected to the APC.
Some even suspect that Suswam will be received by Governor Hyacinth Alia tonight at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Makurdi.

“I refute these unholy rumors with all my might, as they do not represent the interests of the current Suswam or its supporters across the state.
“What I know is that two days ago, Alia respectfully extended an invitation to Suswam, along with other stakeholders, expressing her desire to attend the state banquet scheduled for October 10, 2025.
“It should be noted that as a former governor of the state, Suswam is a stakeholder in the Benue project; that is the reason he accepted the invitation.”
