Former Wales, Liverpool defender Jones dies at 70 years old

The former Wales defender Joey Jones died at the age of 70 after the illness, his former Liverpool and Wrexham clubs said Tuesday.

The left back, known for its hard equipment, was part of the Liverpool team who won their first European Cup in 1977 and successfully defended the title the following year.

“Jones’ attitude and commitment made him earn the affection of Liverpool’s supporters for a long time,” Liverpool said in a note. “Everyone’s thoughts in LFC are with Joey’s family and friends at this sad moment.”

Jones, who played 70 times for his country, started his senior career in Wrexham and spent 11 years in three periods in the club who said they would build a statue in his honor
