Uncertainty is growing over the political future of Rivers State Governor, Sim Fubara, after he angrily stormed out of the APC screening room in Abuja on Sunday.
Fubara arrived at the Plateau State Governors Lodge, home of the APC screening committee, at around 3.15pm but left almost immediately, fueling speculation that he had not been selected.
The committee, dominated by members of the party’s National Working Committee, is vetting aspirants ahead of the party trials.
Speaking to journalists after the exercise, APC National Secretary Ajibola Basiru, who also serves as the secretary of the commission, said the commission had not yet submitted its report.
“Anyone who comes before the screening committee, obviously, is needed as part of the process,” Basiru said.
He said: “When the committee has finished seeing everyone it is supposed to see, it will sit down and submit screening reports. As of now, there is no report.”
Fubara’s abrupt exit has intensified questions over his standing in the APC and his prospects of retaining the Rivers governorship.
