Fulham’s manager, Marco Silva has voiced his disappointment as defender Calvin Bassey departs for the Africa Cup of Nations at a crucial juncture in the season.
Bassey, played a pivotal role in Fulham’s recent 2-1 derby victory against Arsenal, ending the team’s three-game losing streak.
The derby win was Bassey’s final appearance for Fulham before he joined Nigeria’s training camp for the Cup of Nations in Abu Dhabi.
Silva expressed his regret over the timing of Bassey’s departure, emphasizing the disappointment of not having the former Rangers player available for the upcoming crucial fixtures.
“He’s strong, he’s quick, he has quality on the ball, always has the right mindset to learn, to listen, to improve every single day.
“I’m really pleased for him. Unfortunately, we are going to lose him for a long time now because he’s going to the Africa Cup of Nations,” he told the club’s official website.
Calvin Bassey could miss at least six games for Fulham should Nigeria make it to final of the Nations Cup.
The Cottagers are currently nine points above relegation zone.
