Hackers attempted to hack our official X: Army account

The Nigerian military said on Saturday it had detected and was actively responding to an attempted unauthorized access to its official X (formerly Twitter) account.

Colonel Apollonia Anele, acting director of Army public relations, in a statement said: “The incident, which occurred around 5pm (5pm) on Saturday, August 29, 2026, is being treated as a cybersecurity breach.

The Army said: “Immediate technical and protective measures are being activated to secure the account, prevent further unauthorized access and safeguard the integrity of information disseminated through the platform.

“The Nigerian Army assures members of the public, media and other interested parties that adequate measures are underway to fully secure the affected account and restore sole administrative control.

“In the meantime, the public is advised to exercise caution and ignore any suspicious, unauthorized, misleading or unverified content originating from the affected account, as such content does not represent the official position of the Nigerian Army.
“The Nigerian Army remains committed to information integrity, operational security and responsible strategic communication.

“Members of the public and the media are therefore encouraged to verify information through other official communication platforms of the Nigerian Army pending full resolution of the incident.
