Iheanacho Running Out of Time for AFCON – Maresca

Leicester City’s manager, Enzo Maresca has disclosed that Kelechi Iheanacho remains sidelined due to injury, raising concerns about his availability for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Iheanacho has missed the last two games for Leicester City due to his injury.

While recent reports suggest he is engaged in training at the gym, his participation for Nigeria in the Cup of Nations is uncertain.

Responding to the speculations, Maresca expressed uncertainty about Iheanacho’s readiness for the tournament.

“I don’t know if Iheanacho can play at AFCON. The only thing I can say is that Kele is still injured. He’s getting better but still not 100 per cent, otherwise, he would be in the squad for tomorrow (today).”

Nigeria is scheduled to commence their AFCON campaign on January 14 against Equatorial Guinea, followed by a clash with Ivory Coast four days later.

Their final Group A fixture is slated against Guinea-Bissau on January 22.
