In Ijebu-Ode, President Tinubu pays tribute to Awujale, enhances his integrity-Thage

President Bola Tinubu described the deceased Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, as an incarnation of integrity, humility, culture, dedication and service to humanity.

The Awujale died on Sunday 13 July and was buried the following day.

On the eighth day of prayer held on Sunday for the late monarch at the Otunba Dipo Dina stadium in Ode ijebu, in the state of Ogun, President Tinubu said that the Awujale was a pride of the Yoruba race.

“Today marks a significant day in the history of our nation, in particular in the history of the Yoruba people. Nowhere you will find a better definition of our culture than in the life of the late Awujale,” said President Tinubu.

He observed that the deceased Awujale left behind the legacies worthy of emulation and recalled the prayers and support he received from the deceased Oba during his mandate as governor of the State of Lagos and in view of his assumption of the presidency.

“I managed because of your support and the blessings of the late Awujale. I came to him; he blessed me and said:” You will win those elections. “Today it is no longer, but God blessed us, especially if we have listened to the wealth of his wisdom,” said the president.

President Tinubu described Oba ADETONA as a worthy leader – bored, courageous and sincere – adding that “he would never deceive you”.

“To honor this great man, we must be more united, linked to the spirit that he left behind and appreciate his inheritance, even in death. We have appointed institutions after him, and his inheritance will last. It is up to each of us to remember the values he represented. He may God grant him Aljannah Firdus,” said President Tinubu.

He praised the governor Dapo Inhabitun for his exemplary relationship with the deceased Oba and to take care of him both in life and in death.

“I listened to the governor inhabedun and I cannot express how much I thank you for taking care of our father, a leader of our conscience. Before dying, he brought honor to the Yoruba race. I am extremely proud of him; he was always there for us in the times of need,” said President Tinubu. “I remember the episode of June 12, and many other moments in his palace: our resistance, our determination to reverse the cancellation of 12 June. Dad was stopped, resolved and very encouraging. He lived to see the calendar as a 91 -year -old and to attend the conferment of the Grand Commander of the Niger at the age of 90, is an immense source of pride.”

President Tinubu also recalled the consultant and prayers he received from the deceased Oba during his mandate as a governor of the State of Lagos and in view of the presidential elections of 2023.

“I came to him for prayers before the elections and gave me his blessings.”

The president offered prayers by force and comfort for the family in mourning and all those who cry the disappearance of the disappeared obb.

The governor Dapo Inhabitun thanked the president Tinubu for coming to commiserate with the family of the late Awujale. The governor highlighted the numerous contributions that the late monarch has given to Ijebuland, Ogun State and Nigeria as a whole.

“Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona was more than a monarch. He lived a life full of 91 years, with 65 years on the throne,” he said. “His kingdom has brought development not only to ijebuland, but through the western region and Nigeria as a whole.”

The Muslim clerics, led by IMAM Prof. Kamaldeen Balogun, the Grand Mufti of Egbaland, offered prayers for the late monarch and are reflected on the certainty of death. The imam reminded the gathering that “only our good deeds while on earth they will be of any value to our death”.

Previously, at the Palazzo Igbeba of the deceased Oba, the president Tinubu, accompanied by the First Lady, Senator Oloremi Tinubu, offered solemn prayers in the tomb of the OBA for the rest of his soul. He later held a private meeting with the OBA family.

Among those who accompanied the president during the visit of condolences there were Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, governor of the state of Kwara and president of the forum of the governors of Nigeria; Biodun Oyebanji, governor of the state of Ekiti; Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Governor of the State of Ondo; and Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, deputy governor of the state of Lagos.

Otunba Gbenga Daniel, former governor of the state of Ogun and senator who represented the senatorial district of Ogun East were also present; Two other former Governors of the State of Ogun, Olusgun Oosoba and Ibikunle Amosun; The First Lady of the State of Ogun, Mrs. Bamidele Inhabitun; The First Lady of the State of Kwara, Mrs. Olufolake Abdulrazaq; And former First Lady of the State of Ogun, Mrs. Olufunke Daniel.

Leader of the Senate, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele; President, Committee for the appropriations of the Senate, Senator Solomon Adeola; Member, House of Representatives, Hon. Olumide Oosoba; Aviation and aerospace development minister, Festus Keyamo; Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijjani; Minister of development of solid minerals, deleg Alake; And the Minister of Finance and the Coordination of the Minister of Economy, Wale Edun, also accompanied the president to honor the Awujale.

A transversal section of mourning, including political and religious leaders, praised President Tinubu for participating in the eighth prayer in honor of the late monarch.

Senator Gbenga Daniel said that the presence of the president has very excited the entire Ijebu community, observing that he underlines the strong relationship between President Tinubu and the Awujale of Ijebuland.

The Grand Mufti of Yorubaland, the Sorgco Abdulrazaq Abdul-Azeez Ishola, observed that the deceased Awujale has shown his commitment for the administration of President Tinubu by mobilizing his people to support the president. “The president’s participation in this event is interpreted as a significant and symbolic gesture, recognizing the past support and strengthening connections,” he said.
