The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced a new adjustment to the campaign calendar for the Osun State governorship election.
With the adjustment, the last day for political party campaigns in the state is now midnight on Thursday, August 13, 2026.
INEC had earlier brought forward the Osun governorship elections by a week from Saturday, August 8, 2026 to Saturday, August 15, 2026.
This change was contained in the revised calendar and program of activities for the 2027 general elections released on 26 February 2026.
National Commissioner and Chairman of the Voter Information and Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, said this on Thursday.
The commission urged all political parties, candidates and stakeholders to strictly adhere to the revised timeline.
The statement explained that the adjustment is purely consequential and did not affect other aspects of the Osun governorship electoral process which has already concluded.
INEC has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring free, fair, credible and inclusive governorship elections in Osun State.
Political parties and candidates have been advised to immediately review and adapt their campaign programs to ensure they conclude all rallies, public meetings, media broadcasts and advertisements before the new midnight deadline of 13 August 2026.
The full statement reads: “We recall that on February 26, 2026, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) released the revised calendar and program of activities for the 2027 general elections and brought forward the Osun State governorship elections by one week to August 8 to 15, 2026.
“As a result of this adjustment, the last day for political party campaigns in the state is now midnight on Thursday 13 August 2026, in line with section 98(1) of the Electoral Act 2026, which requires campaigns to end 24 hours before election day.
“The Commission urges all political parties, candidates and stakeholders to strictly adhere to the revised timeline.
“INEC remains committed to the holding of free, fair, credible and inclusive elections.”
