Kwambe questions the lack of purpose of Chan Eagles in Senegal’s defeat

The former Nigerian international, Solomon Kwambe, criticized Nigeria’s performance in his 1-0 defeat against Senegal in the African Nations Championship (Chan) 2024.

Kwambe admitted that he was not surprised by the result, noting that Chan Eagles team kept the ball without having any significant impact on the last third.

“The performance was not up to it. Before and during the game, I noticed that we were playing more possession football instead of having a purpose. Senegal made more attempts and finally won,” he said.

Despite the defeat, Kwambe defended Eric Chelle, insisting that the players carried out their game plan.

“The coach gave his instructions, and I think the players followed them. The fact that we do not win does not mean that the coach has been ineffective. He is doing everything possible, and I think 100% is what the coach asked.”

Nigeria will return to action when they face Sudan in their second meeting of Group D at the Amaan Stadium in Zanzíbar on Tuesday.

The start is scheduled for 6:00 pm Nigerian time.
