Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu vowed on Wednesday that his government would not allow a repeat of the October 2020 #ENDSARS protests in the state.
A nationwide protest called by a group of Nigerians to show their dissatisfaction with the hardships and other problems brought about by the current government’s policy initiatives will take place on August 1.
The governor, who was addressing the nation, said the protests hashtagged “#EndBadGovernance” could not achieve economic reforms in a matter of weeks or months.
He said: “Reflecting on the tragic events of the #ENDSARS protests in 2020, the protests started peacefully but were later hijacked, resulting in huge damage and losses.

“We will NOT allow history to repeat itself. During the protests, we witnessed the destruction of valuable properties and institutions: Lagos High Court, 45 police stations, 12 Local Government offices, 7 Fire Stations, and the Forensic Center, among others.
“City Hall, the Nigerian Ports Authority headquarters and the palace of the traditional ruler were also destroyed.
“Shopping malls, shops, offices and hundreds of new BRT buses were destroyed. Such destruction only makes us economically and socially worse.”
