Monrovia, Liberia, March 19, 2026: Foreign Affairs Minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti, on Thursday, March 19, 2026, received in audience a delegation from the g7+ Secretariat, headed by its Secretary-General, Dr. Helder da Costa.
The g7+ (Group of Seven Plus) is an intergovernmental organization of 20 countries that are either currently experiencing, or are in transition from, conflict and political fragility.
Founded in April 2010, the group advocates for better international engagement in development and peacebuilding for member states.
In her welcome remarks, Minister Beysolow Nyanti warmly received the delegation on behalf of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., and the Government of Liberia.
She reaffirmed Liberia’s strong commitment to multilateralism, emphasizing that the country’s post-conflict recovery and development have been significantly supported through multilateral cooperation.
Secretary-General da Costa congratulated Liberia on now serving as Vice President of the g7+ and as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.
He indicated that Liberia has attained a high level of global prominence and relevance in the last two years, and the g7+ would like to leverage that to advance the issues of its member states. He raised the issues faced by Guinea-Bissau and South Sudan, as well as those faced by other g7+ members.
Minister Nyanti, on her part, thanked Secretary-General da Costa and his delegation for the visit to Liberia and for the elections that brought Liberia to the role of Vice President of the g7+.
She stressed that Liberia takes pride in multilateralism and continues to advocate for a more equitable and just rules-based global system.
She noted that Liberia remains committed to working with international partners to promote peace, stability, and sustainable development, particularly for countries affected by conflict and fragility.
For his part, Dr. Helder da Costa underscored the importance of strengthening solidarity among member states as they navigate complex global challenges.
Dr. da Costa further noted that the mission will explore ways in which the g7+ can support member countries, including Liberia, through initiatives such as the Rapid Advisory Response Centre (RARC), which provides legal expertise and peer support to countries facing urgent and complex national legal challenges.
He further lauded the recent efforts by Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea to pursue peace by signing the joint communiqué. He added that such efforts can enhance peer learning among member states in peacebuilding, and that areas such as public financial management, natural resource governance, and access to justice can benefit from it.
He asked that Liberia serve as the team leader for observing the next elections in São Tomé and Príncipe, a role that Foreign Minister Beysolow Nyanti readily accepted. She also indicated Liberia’s readiness to host the next ministerial meeting in 2027.
“Liberia stands ready to play a leadership role in advancing the g7+ initiatives and leveraging our experiences to support the growth and development of member states,” Mme. Beysolow Nyanti emphasized.
