Coach Éric Chelle has invited a total of 31 players to the camp of the U23 national team, Olympic Eagles, as the countdown begins to next month’s U23 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against the Democratic Republic of Congo’s U23 national team.
In the squad there are four goalkeepers, nine defenders, eight midfielders and 10 forwards.
Both countries will meet in the first leg inside the TP Mazembe Stadium in Lubumbashi on Friday, November 13, and the second leg at the Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne-Remo, on Tuesday, November 17.
The winner of the two match matches will reach the final round of the AFCON U-23 qualification phase to be held in Egypt next year, where Africa’s representatives will emerge at the Los Angeles Men’s Olympic Football Tournament.
Nigeria, Olympic champion of gold (Atlanta 1996), silver (Beijing 2008) and bronze (Rio de Janeiro 2016), has not participated in the men’s Olympic football tournament for 10 years.
The Olympic Eagles advanced to this second round, while the Democratic Republic of the Congo beat Mauritania in two games to set a date with Nigeria.
All invited players must report to the AM2PM Hotel, Ijebu-Ode, on Sunday, October 25.
