Medical director arrested while treating patients, handcuffed, taken away

The Benue State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of Dr. Jonah Ogbaji, Medical Director of Multicare Hospital, Makurdi.

DSP Peter Orchia, Benue Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the arrest on Thursday in Makurdi.

Orchia said Ogbaji was arrested by officials of the Special Tactical Squad attached to the Force Intelligence Department (FID), Abuja, and later taken to the A Division Police Station in Makurdi.

However, he said the circumstances of the arrest have yet to be fully established.

“The information I have is that he was arrested by officials in Abuja and taken to A Division.

“I have yet to get all the details of why he was arrested,” Orchia said.

It was earlier reported that Ogbaji was kidnapped from the hospital premises at around 9pm on Wednesday while tending to patients.

A reliable source said some people dressed in police uniform arrived at the hospital in a Toyota Sienna vehicle, handcuffed Ogbaji and took him away.

The source said the incident had initially raised concerns about his whereabouts, prompting his family to visit several police stations in Makurdi.

The police spokesperson, however, clarified that the health director was arrested by police officers and not kidnapped.
