Forces from the Special Military Task Force, Operation Safe Haven (Opsh), have arrested two people suspected of involvement in the murder of Rev. Fr. Sylvester Okechukwu.
The arrest was announced in a statement released on Wednesday by the Media Officer Opsh, Major Samson Zhakom, in Jos.
Pdt. Fr. Okechukwu, a Catholic Diocese of Kafanchan, the State of Kaduna, was kidnapped from his residence in Tachira, the Kaura Regional Government area, on March 4 at around 21:15 he was then found dead on March 5.
Major Zhakom detailed the arrest, who stated, “The suspects were arrested on Tuesday after the raid at the hiding place of the main suspect located in the Ruga settlement in the Warsa-Piti community, after the raid by troops in a settlement in LGA LGA in the State of Kaduna.”

He further explained the initial findings of the investigation. “During the initial investigation, the main suspect, a 33 -year -old man, claimed to have been contracted by another man, living in the same house as a priest who was killed, to kidnap him.”
The statement also recorded the next arrest. “The troops in the follow -up operation arrested the suspect at AGWAN SARKI, TACHIRA in Kaura LGA. The suspects in detention were experiencing further interrogation,” Zhakom said.
Opsh Media Officer confirmed that the investigation was ongoing. “Investigations are still ongoing to uncover the existence of the remaining people who participate in heinous crimes.”
