NDA disavows viral list of sanctioned cadets and reaffirms zero tolerance for misconduct

The Nigerian Defense Academy has distanced itself from reports widely circulated on social media detailing disciplinary actions against some of its cadets, describing the publications as unauthorized and misleading.

The academy said the viral posts, which outlined sanctions imposed on cadets for alleged offences, did not come from its official channels and should be ignored by the public.

In a statement released on Friday by its public relations officer, Reuben Kovangiya, the NDA explained that the disciplinary measures followed the commander’s routine orders held at his headquarters in Kaduna.

According to the statement, commandant’s orders remain an established administrative process in military institutions for addressing infractions and enforcing discipline among cadets.

The academy acknowledged that some cadets were disciplined for various offenses, including theft, brutality, substance abuse, absence without leave and other conduct violations. He added that the sanctions imposed ranged from arrest and demotion to retirement and outright dismissal, depending on the severity of each case.

However, the NDA stressed that the detailed reports circulating online do not constitute authorized disclosures.

“The Academy does not indulge in publicizing administrative procedures or disciplinary actions, in line with military ethics, traditions and the principle of confidentiality that guides such processes,” the statement reads.

He further suggested that viral publications may have originated from individuals seeking attention or relevance.

Reiterating its position, the academy underlined its commitment to maintaining rigorous discipline and upholding high moral and professional standards among its cadets.

The NDA also assured the public that it will continue to develop officers who are not only academically sound but also rooted in the character and leadership values required by the Nigeria Armed Forces.

It added that it has a zero tolerance policy for misconduct and remains steadfast in enforcing its uncompromising code of conduct.
