Nelfund closes 2024/2025 Loan portal 30 September

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (Nelphund) has announced that its portal of applications for the academic session of 2024/2025 will close on Tuesday 30 September 2025, while it moves to a new cycle of operations for the academic year 2025/2026.

The closure marks the end of the second complete cycle of the interest -free student loan regime, which has continued to relieve financial charges for Nigerian university students since its beginning.

In a declaration signed by his director of strategic communications, Mrs. Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, Nelphund revealed that the new window of application would open in the second week of October 2025 and would take place until January 2026.

The agency, however, warned that all un verified applications for the outgoing session 2024/2025 would have been automatically canceled after October 8, 2025.

Students whose records remain un verified was recommended to immediately involve their institutions to complete the process or risk reapplying again in the new cycle.

“The announcement of the closure of the current applications portal is a necessary step to prepare for the next cycle”, the CEO/CEO of Nellfund, Akintumede Sawyerr, was mentioned.

“Nelphund remains committed to removing financial barriers for students and working with institutions to ensure that no suitable student is left behind. These times provide clarity for students, parents and institutions to plan in advance and participate fully in the process,” he added.

The Fund has directed the tertiary institutions throughout the country to promptly update their students’ records on the student verification system (SVS) to allow access to candidates in the new academic session.

He also revealed that the institutions still to start new sessions during the application window must inform the concessions to host their students in theFund.

While maintenance payments for beneficiaries in the 2024/2025 session will continue until November 2025, the students were remembered that they must reapply in the 2025/2026 cycle to continue accessing the benefits of the regime.

In theFund he also warned the institutions that were unable to complete the students’ checks, underlining that their names would have been publicly published for responsibility and transparency.

The Fund urged the candidates to collaborate in close contact with their institutions, complete their records in time and avoid losing the opportunity to benefit from the loans without interest supported by the government.

For further requests, students were advised to contact Nelfund through its official communication channels, including E -Mail (info@nelf.gov.ng), social media platforms or its website (www.nelf.gov.ng).
