The Niger Tornadoes have taken a decisive step towards maintaining their NPFL status after battling to a hard-earned goalless draw against the El-Kanemi Warriors in their matchday 37 encounter at the El-Kanemi Sports Center in Maiduguri.

The precious away point leaves Ikon Allah Boys firmly in contention to avoid relegation, with survival now in their hands ahead of the final game of the season. A win in their final home game against Shooting Stars SC in Minna will secure a place in the NPFL for another season.

The Niger Tornadoes technical crew made a series of bold changes to the starting line-up, decisions which ultimately proved instrumental in securing the vital result. Goalkeeper Jerry Isaac received the nomination ahead of starter Ifeanyi Nchekwube, with the stopper facing his former club.

Isaac justified the faith shown in him, producing a composed performance and organizing the defense effectively before being forced off and replaced by Godwin Daniel.

Defensively, Idris Saidu has been moved to central defense alongside Sunday Akinmoladun. The partnership brought pace and stability to the backline, successfully neutralizing the attacking threats posed by the hosts.

At left back, Aliyu Mohammed Goyi delivered arguably his best performance of the season. The defender was solid defensively, blocking flank attacks, while also providing an attacking outlet with targeted forward runs whenever the opportunity arose.

In midfield, Ani Chigozie is back and has added energy and composure to the team. He combined effectively with Ahmadu Liman and Ifeanyi Okoye, as the trio controlled the pace of the game and disrupted El-Kanemi Warriors’ attempts to build momentum.

The match was played at a high pace from start to finish, with both teams fully aware of the importance of the match in the fight against relegation.

The Ikon Allah Boys withstood the pressure and emerged with a valuable point that could prove decisive in their fight for survival.

The draw means both clubs still have work to do to secure their top-flight status. El-Kanemi Warriors face a tough trip on the final day in Aba, where they will face Enyimba FC, who are also in danger.

The Niger Tornadoes, meanwhile, return to Minna knowing that a win against the Shooting Stars will confirm their place in the NPFL next season, regardless of results elsewhere.

With survival now within reach, Minna’s team will look to complete the job in front of their home fans and cap a dramatic season with a successful escape from relegation.
