The declaration states in some parts: “The Nigerian army has noticed with serious concern the circulation of a highly misleading and harmful audio clip on social media, claiming that the troops of the Operation Whirl Stroke (Ottws) have engaged in a violent clash with the staff of unjustified operation Kingpin terrorist of Fulani by military personnel following the alleged murder of 23 civilians and an officer of 23 civilians and an officer Mobile Police (Mopol) in the community of Tulan, in the area of ​​the local government of Kwande.

“Following the statements, a search mission of facts by the OPW in consultation with the police authorities established that no murders have occurred in the Kwande LGA on 11 May 2025, as said. Benue’s State Police Command also confirmed any accident, contrary to the false narrative. Furthermore, the commander of the Zenda base denied any comparison with the military personnel, who was not recorded, contrary to the false narrative.

“In a completely unrelated and legitimate operation, the troops had previously intervened in Udei, where an individual Fulani was saved by the lynching of the crowd and delivered to the police. The two Fulani people who refer in the audio remain in custody of the police and are processed through adequate legal channels.

“Viral audio is clearly the work of creators of malice, ethnic provocatives and enemies of peace, intent on undermining public trust in security agencies and sowing discord within the communities. It is a manufactured narrative, devoid of facts, designed to falsely imply military personnel and discourage coordinated safety efforts of the war coup and its partners.

“The Nigerian army sees these disinformation campaigns as serious threats to national security and will not hesitate to identify and pursue responsible for the diffusion. Therefore, citizens are strongly recommended to ignore the harmful audio and to refrain from sharing content that have not been verified through official or credible sources,” said the note.
