No space for xenophobia in Ghana, says President Mahama

President John Mahama of Ghana has reaffirmed the country’s commitment to the Economic Community of States of West Africa (Ecowas), saying that there is no place for xenophobia in Ghana.

Mahama revealed him while receiving the special envoy of President Bola Tinubu led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu at the presidential palace, Accra, Ghana.

This is contained in a declaration issued on Friday by dr. Magnus Eze, special assistant in communication and new media, office of the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of Nigeria.

The president of Ghana reiterated his commitment to advance Ecowas protocols, in particular relevant to the free movement of people and goods in the region

Mahama asked the correspondent to transmit his message to President Tinubu, pushing not to lose sleep for recent protests against Nigerian citizens residing in his country.

According to him, Nigeria and Ghana are brothers with shared history, so they would not allow nothing to get together.

He reiterated that the recirculation of an old video made by a Nigerian residing in Ghana over 10 years ago actually generated tension, but he willingly announced that the situation was quickly managed.

He said that the demonstrators were not up to 50, ensuring the correspondent for the safety and protection of lives, properties and companies of Nigeria and Nigerians in Ghana.

For his part, Ojukwu thanked President Mahama for his hospitality, saying that the mission of the sending was to make the tension in Ghana following a viral video against the Nigerians.

According to her, every at home Nigerian was worried about the situation and worried about the safety of Nigerian citizens in Ghana, their properties and their businesses.

He said that the visit had to facilitate the establishment of a permanent joint commission of Nigeria-Ghana equally.

The minister said that the joint commission would help to face the issue of migration linked to young people caused by the enormous demography of the unemployed under the age of 45.

“We are encouraging our young people to stay in Nigeria and if it is necessary to migrate, they must be great ambassadors,” said Odumegwu-Ojukwu.
