NUPRC, Komolafe appointed for the prestigious prizes of the Africa Energy summit

The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has been recognized as a leading force in the African energy sector, gaining a nomination for the coveted car regulator award of the year to the imminent Africa Energies summit.
The summit, now in its 29th edition, will be held on May 15 in London, bringing together the best actors in the sector, politicians and innovators who shape the energy future of Africa.
The appointment of Nuprc in the category of the Rhino Prize underlines its significant steps in transforming the oil panorama upstream of Nigeria through innovation, transparency and effective regulation.
The CEO of the Commission, Engr. Gbenga Komolafe is also a strong contender for the Elephant Award, which honors the distinct individual contribution to the African energy sector.
With these awards, the Commission has again put Nigeria on the global scene.
Engr. Komolafe, who has led the Nuptr since its institution in 2021, has received numerous awards for its leadership, including the CEO of the Year prize of the group of this day/Arise and the Sun Public Service Prize, recognizing its strategic reforms and the commitment to the energy development of Nigeria.
While Nigeria continues to advance its energy sector through regulatory excellence, innovation and strategic reforms, Nuprc’s appointment highlights its fundamental role in modeling the energy future of Africa. The top prizes will act as a platform to honor these pioneers and strengthen the position of Nigeria as the leader of continental energy.
In a declaration issued by the summit marketing manager, Rachel Creegan, the organization announced the presentation of the first 50 leaders, a list appointed to peers who celebrate visionaries and institutions that guide the energy evolution of Africa. The prizes aim to recognize excellence through corporate, individuals, individual and community spheres, underlining the role of the sector in economic growth and energy safety throughout the continent.
The results of the NUPRC in 2025 include high record reserves of 37.24 billion barrels and gas reserves of 210.5 TCF, with a 64 -year -old reserve life for oil and 93 years for gas. The Commission also revitalized the trust of the investors and launched initiatives to increase the production of oil of the Nigeria by one million barrels per day, positioning Nigeria as a key actor in the African energy scene.
The award ceremony of the summit will be characterized by illustrious guests, including Gayle Meikle, CEO of Frontier, and Maggy Shino, oil commissioner of Namibia, which acts as a guest of honor. The event promises a celebration of leadership, innovation and progress, combining the African and global parties.

The others appointed for the Elephant Prize are: Alcides Andrade, member of the Executive Council, Anpg; John Ardill, vice -president, Exxonmobil; Nantenina Rasolonirina, general manager of acting, omnis; and Ernest Rubondo, executive director, oil authority of Uganda.
Other categories of prizes are the Lion Award for the distinct company contribution, the Leopard Award for the independent player of the African year; The Buffalo Award for Africa Service and Supply Company of the Year; Africa’s Legend Award, Celebrating Lifetime Achievement and Legacy; Guiding women in African energy, recognizing pioneering leadership; African Energy Funding of the Year to feed growth and innovation; Local Award for the impact for the guidance of positive changes in African communities; and emerging leaders in African energy, which is the Rising Star Award.
