Ogun State Deputy Governor, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, joined other senior government officials and women leaders in Abuja on Wednesday to galvanize support for President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Agenda of Hope through a nationwide women mobilization campaign ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Salako-Oyedele was speaking at the “Power of 10 Million Movement” rally held at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, where stakeholders presented a platform aimed at connecting and empowering 10 million Nigerian women politically, economically and socially.
Addressing participants, the deputy governor said that although women continued to contribute significantly across all sectors, their impact was limited by weak coordination and insufficient networks.
She said: “From the woman in Kano who runs her business, to the farmer in Benue, to the entrepreneur in Lagos, women are already working. The challenge wasn’t capacity, it was connection.”
Salako-Oyedele stressed that the success of the initiative would depend on sustained commitment, unity and strategic organisation, stressing that a well-coordinated women’s bloc could shape governance discourse and influence national development priorities.
She also committed to working with women leaders across the country to amplify grassroots voices and ensure inclusivity in decision-making.
In her remarks, the wife of the Imo State governor and Chairperson of the Progressive Governors’ Wives Forum, Chioma Uzodimma, described the movement as a practical framework for integrating women into national development efforts.
Uzodimma stressed that the long-term viability of the initiative will be anchored on continuous participation and structured engagement among communities.
Furthermore, the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, said Nigerian women possess the numerical strength and capacity to lead national transformation, noting that they constitute more than half of the country’s population.
She reiterated that the Renewed Hope Agenda prioritizes inclusion and provides a platform for women to take on greater roles in governance and leadership.
Similarly, Minister of Women’s Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, described the rally as a turning point in the political awakening of Nigerian women, adding that the initiative signals a transition from passive participation to active influence in national affairs.
She said the movement will reposition women from the margins to the center of policy formulation and decision-making.
Representatives of key women’s groups, including the women’s wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria, the Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations in Nigeria and the Abuja Market Women’s Association, also supported the initiative, pledging to mobilize their members nationwide.
Salako-Oyedele noted that the turnout at the rally highlighted the willingness of Nigerian women to take on more strategic roles in shaping the country’s future, calling for continued commitment to collective action.
