Outrage after ‘Betty’ the bear was shot and killed by Coquitlam RCMP – BC

Animal rights activists are calling for change after RCMP shot dead a mother bear in Coquitlam.

Police were called Saturday to the Westwood Highlands area when the bear, known to area residents as Betty, and her cubs entered a home through an unlocked front door.

The pig ended up in the backyard and video shows the bear charging towards the RCMP officers.

Conservation officers say the bear has a history of property damage and shows no fear of humans, but others say killing the bear is unnecessary.
