Acting Chairperson of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Damagum, said on Thursday that the party would not lose sleep for the adoption of the opposition coalition from the African Democratic Party (SDP) as a platform to compete for the 2027 general election.
Damagum stated this at the meeting of the PDP National Executive Committee (NEC) in Abuja.
He said PDP remained the only party who was ready to take back power in 2027.
According to him, PDP remains a party with national structure, revenue, and inheritance that is able to bear the burden of great national development.
He said: “I have to discuss a problem called a coalition that was recently formed, which included several members of our party that defected.
“About this issue, I am happy to report that this political experiment has no loss of sleep.
“They say, a bird in the hands is two worth in the bush. Some new people learn this truth in the most uncomfortable way.
“Many jumps on the coalition music train have returned to our folds. Some even claim that they never leave and only attend meetings, we accept their recognition without prejudice.

“Let me add that this reversal is not limited to members of the PDP. People from other political parties who initially joined the coalition have realized that the business was bad and their quick return was proof of this.”
The Chairperson of the PDP Governor Forum, Governor Bala Mohammed from the state of Bauchi, sympathized with those who, because of the impatience to leave the party.
He added that the party door was still open to them to return.
“This is not the time to call the name. This is not the time for violations.
“We sympathize with those who become impatient and leave, but of course they will understand and we will still leave the teaching door so that they enter when they want, within the time limit.
“We will not continue to forgive discipline in this party, because the indiscipline is what brings us these challenges.
“The party has shown resilience, and the governor has experienced many challenges, such as NWC.
“We will continue to express confidence in party organs,” he said.
