Police rescue Adelabu’s sister, her twin sons and kill two kidnappers in Oyo

Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have rescued Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, sister of former Minister of Power and gubernatorial aspirant of the All Progressives Congress in Oyo State, Adebayo Adelabu, along with her 12-year-old twin sons, after a fierce gunfight with suspected kidnappers in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The operation, carried out on Saturday evening, led to the killing of two alleged kidnappers, while two firearms were recovered from the gang.

Security sources confirmed that the victims were rescued alive at around 7.30pm, three days after they were abducted on June 3 while on their way to school in Ibadan.

According to police sources, the rescue occurred after thorough intelligence gathering, monitoring of the suspects’ movements and a coordinated tactical operation by officers of the Nigeria Police Force.

It was learned that after days of surveillance the pressure on the kidnappers increased, forcing them into a confrontation with security agents, which eventually led to a firefight in which two members of the gang were neutralized.

The victims saved: Mrs. John-Paul and his twin sons, Peter and Paul, are said to have been found unharmed and have since been reunited with their family.

However, some members of the kidnapping syndicate reportedly escaped with gunshot wounds, prompting an ongoing manhunt by security agencies in some parts of Oyo State and neighboring areas.

The kidnapping had sparked widespread concern after gunmen intercepted the victims on the morning of June 3 while they were traveling in Ibadan. Eyewitnesses had previously described the incident as a coordinated attack that left residents in shock.

Following the incident, Adelabu’s family had confirmed the abduction, assuring the public that security agencies had been mobilized for their safe return.

Police authorities say operations are underway to dismantle the remaining members of the gang and curb further incidents of kidnapping in the state.
