Some members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the local Government area of Agege in the State of Lagos, Tuesday, organized a protest on the results of the primaries of the party last Saturday.
Party members, singing words that reject the result of the primaries during the protest in the Agege area of Oke-Koto, said that the announced results do not reflect the will of the members of the APC in the area.
They said that Babaunde Azeez and Inhabitun Akinola, announced respectively as candidates for the presidency for Age LG LG and Oile-aging Development Area (LCDA), were imposed on party members.
Sabitu Kamorudeen, president of 2023 Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) in age, who led the protest, said that most party members were against the emergence of the candidates for the two areas of the Council
According to him, the two candidates were chosen by hand by some party leaders to serve their selfish interests.
“We are here to challenge those who use the name of President Bola Tinubu to impose their candidates.
“The results are not only misleading, but they are a serious false declaration of the democratic will of the members of our party in age and origin.
“The results are not a reflection of the right process, but purity of manipulation and abuse of party machinery from rooted interests, which have diverted our local policy,” he said.
Speaking, Adventunji Akinyemi, spokesperson, PCC Oile-Agege LCDA, said that the members of the APC in the area recognize and respect the supremacy of the directives and structures of the party.
According to him, this deference must not be misunderstood as the passive approval of tyranny or self -portrait expanded as leadership.
“We cannot support a scenario in which a single individual, brandishing excessive influence, is positioned as the only referee of those who arise or fall within the party on the age of age.
“This is not the discipline of the party: it is a political capture, and it is antithetical for the democratic ethics of our party, the APC. The political climate in the age and oile-aging is only worrying,” he said.
Furthermore, Mr. AKEM ASHIRU, one of the party leaders in the area, urged the Council of State of the APC, the political leaders and members of the national party work committee to act on the matter and verify what has called the hijacking of the party in age and originates.
“This is Lagos and this is Agege, it is not a political heritage to be inherited or transferred at will.
“For many of us, Agege is not only our electoral college, it is our home. We do not have ancestral retreats beyond these communities and therefore we must insist on justice, equity and conservation of peace,” said Ashiru.
Asanat Lawal, a member of the group, said that their loyalty has remained with the wider APC.
According to her, party members are engaged in the party and the second -term offer of President Bola Tinubu, but will not remain silent in the face of oppression.
“We will continue to resist any attempt to destroy our democratic bases of our local policy and defend the rights of our people to be represented by individuals who choose not for Fiat, coercion or hereditary succession,” he said.
The party inaugurated a appeal committee to examine alleged negligence, manipulation and accusations raised by aspirants and delegates who participated in the primaries.
The party advised the discontent aspirants to submit their appeals to the Committee by noon on Tuesday (13 May).
The independent electoral commission of the State of Lagos, Lasiec, had set itself on 12 July for the elections of the local government in the state.
