SDP sucks the inscription with respect to the waste of candidates in the middle of the deepening of the internal crisis

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) dragged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INC) in court for the disqualification of its candidates to participate in the imminent supplementary elections in 12 states, even if the party fights a worsening of the leadership crisis.

In a declaration issued on Sunday, the secretary of the National Adpos of the SDP, Arabic Rufus Aiyenigba, accused the Incen of having passed its constitutional boundaries refusing to recognize the candidates that emerged from those that the party has described as legitimate primary elections.

“The SDP is already challenging the decision of the INCC in court,” reads the declaration.

“We are confident that the judiciary will force the INC to accept our appropriate candidates appointed, in line with the Constitution, the electoral law and the Incen guidelines”.

According to reports, the SDP disqualified commission and candidates of the Labor Party on the basis of alleged disputes of the Internal Party, a move that the SDP insists that contradicts a sentence of the Supreme Court that affirms the autonomy of political parties in the appointment of candidates.

The refusal of the Randidates of the candidates comes against the background of the growing internal turmoil within the SDP. A fierce leadership brawl recently led to the emergence of a new faction led by Adamu Modibo as national acting president, following a meeting of the National Emergency Executive Committee (NEC) held on July 25 in Abuja and participated by 23 State Presidents.

Modibo has promised to restore the order within the party, announcing the formation of a reconciliation committee and disciplinary to unify the factions in war.

“We are setting up a line,” he said, while he promised to face all the forms of misconduct that tear the party.

However, a rival faction led by Dr. Sadiq Abubakar rejected the leadership of Modibo, describing the meeting of the NEC as unconstitutional and unauthorized.

The national secretary of the faction, dr. Olu Agunloye, has accused the modest field of forgeting signatures of state presidents and warned against further constitutional violations.

The crisis had a snowball in a wave of suspension and expulsions. On June 24, the faction faithful to Alhaji Shehu Gabam suspended the same former national president for accusations of undue financial appropriation and unauthorized relationships.

Two other high officials – the national auditor Nze nnadi Clarkson and the national youth leader Uchechukwu Chukwuma – were also suspended for similar crimes.

In a surprising turning point, the SDP has announced a 30-year expulsion of the former governor of the state of Kaduna, Mallam Nasir El-Romai, from its ranks. The party accused El-Romai of falsely claiming of being a member while secretly promoted the interest of another political party in Kaduna.

According to Aiyenigba, El-Ruphai did not complete the basic recording requirement at the level of the district and has aligned with the data of the suspended party.

“His actions violated both the establishment of the SDP and the electoral act,” said Aiyenigba.
