Speaking on the “Sunday politics” program of the television of the channels, the Senator of Benue South warned the political parties against the field of northern candidates in the next elections, warning that this move could return against.

Moro attributed the defeat of the PDP in the presidential elections of 2023 in part of the party’s decision to select a northern candidate to succeed another Northerner, a move that said the voters rejected.

Moro declared: “In 2023, the PDP to bother the government of the APC, decided to put the best foot forward and, at that time, chose Atiku Abubakar against the code of an unwritten agreement of the North-South Presidency. It was failed.

“Most of the Nigerians at the time chose a southern candidate to satisfy the justice of the unwritten convention of the north-south rotation. That presidency will be four years by 2027.”

Although he did not approve any specific candidate, Moro said that the Constitution has allowed a president to serve for two terms of four years each.

He said it was important to respect that picture.

“Once again, it will present some small goats if, against the background of what happened in 2023, you will begin to foil with the idea of bringing power back to the north.

He said: “The reasonable thing to do is: the South should produce the next president to complete eight Southern years and, even if not written, the Nigerians will look at the North to produce the next president in 2031”.

Moro also commented on the departure of Atiku Abubakar and his 2023 hurry companion Ifeanyi Okowo from the PDP, describing it in no uncertain terms as a good Riddance.

He accused both politicians of having contributed to internal conflicts that have weakened the party after the last general elections, but expressed confidence in the potential of the PDP to reconstruct and emerge as a strong opposition force.
