Tension grew when Ooni refused a response to the alaafin ultimatum to the dispute over the title of the tribal chief

Ooni Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogeunwusi, has refused to comment on the 48 -hour ultimatum issued by Alaafin Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade, for the awarding of the head title.

Alaafin has demanded that Ogunwusi revoke the title of Okanlomo from Yorubaland, who was only given to businessman Dotun Sanusi, insisting that Ooni did not have the authority to give such a title.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday, Moses Olafare, a spokesman for Ooni, said that the king had directed him not to issue an official response, rejecting the ultimatum as “an empty threat.”

“We cannot appreciate those who are not dignified with official responses. We leave the problem to be handled in a public court because it has been treated,” Olafare wrote. “Let’s focus more on the narrative that unites us than those who are able to share us. 48 hours of my feet!”

This dispute highlighted the increasing tension between two first -class kings above the scope of their traditional authority.

On Monday, Bode Durojaiye, Director of Media and Publicity to Alaafin, released a statement stating that only alaafin holds “exclusive rights” to give a title that covers all Jorubaland.

He argues that Ooni’s jurisdiction is limited to the Oranmiyan regional government, which has since been divided into IFE Central, IFE North, and IFE South.

“The conference of the title of tribal chief who disturbed Yorubaland by Ooni Ife not only insult to respected institutions from Alaafin, who is Titan Yorubaland, but is also a violation of exclusive rights to give such degrees,” the statement said.

Alaafin warns that the failure to withdraw the title within 48 hours will attract an unspecified consequence.
