The deputy governor of the state of Bayelsa, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, invited Christian leaders to eliminate the unhealthy competition between the denominations to strengthen the spread of the Gospel.
Speaking during a courtesy visit of the national vice-president of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), south-south, Archbishop Emmah Isong, at the Government House of Yenagoa on Monday, Ewhrudjakpo criticized the division teachings that undermine the unity of the Christian faith.
The deputy governor expressed concern about the growing rivalry between the churches, stating that it hinders the impact of the Gospel.
He underlined the need for the churches to collaborate in social initiatives, such as the reduction of poverty and the empowerment of young people, to demonstrate the practical impact of the Gospel.
“It is rare to listen to the untied message of salvation by the pulpit today,” he said, exhorting Christians to embrace the uniqueness to fulfill the great commission.
He provided that a unified church, free from competitive divisions, would relaunch the spirit of Pentecost.
Ewhrudjakpo thanked the PFN for their constant support for the state administration and ensured them the support of the government for their initiatives.
He invited the PFN to intensify prayers for national unity, given the socio-economic challenges during Nigeria.
He underlined that spiritual solidarity among Christians could inspire hope and resilience in the communities, exhorting the PFN to give an example to promote harmony through the denominations.
He promised to transmit their requests to the governor Douye Diri for the action.
Archbishop Isong, in his observations, praised Bayelsa as a stronghold of Christianity in the South-South region.
He praised the contributions of the state government to the Christian community and asked the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the PFN and the construction of his new national secretariat in Abuja.
The PFN delegation has committed to work closely with the state government to advance these shared objectives.
The PFN delegation included the President of State, the shepherd Tam Seth Eyedoude and other managers.
