The Everton midfielder takes the first step to play for the Super Eagles

Everton midfielder Tim Iroegbunam has taken the first step towards playing for the Nigerian senior team, OwnGoalNigeria.com can exclusively reveal.

Born in England to parents of Nigerian descent, the 23-year-old has represented England at youth level. The last of which came in 2024 when he was playing with the Under-20s.

Last season he had his big opportunity at Everton, playing a total of 29 games with three assists from his role as central midfielder. He believes that it is time for him to make a decision about his international future.

We can exclusively reveal that contacts have been made with their representatives and the initial response was very positive. The head coach of the Nigerian team, Eric Chelle, sees him as a long-term replacement for Wilfred Ndidi.

The player’s squad will now seek to go further and request a change of nationality from England to Nigeria, a process that will probably be completed before the end of the year.
