The former Lagos lawmaker called on Tinubu to drop Shettima in favor of a Muslim/Christian ticket

As the 2027 Elections draw near, former two-term lawmaker in the Lagos State House of Representatives, Jude Idimogu, has stated that a Muslim/Christian Presidential candidate for his party, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027, would be a better choice.

Idimogu, who represents Oshodi/Isolo 2 Constituency in the Lagos House, in a press statement on Saturday, emphasized that although his party is capable of using an Islamic/Muslim pair to win the presidential seat in 2023, there needs to be political inclusion of other major religious groups, namely Christians, in the party’s calculations so that it can win the elections in 2027.

He argued that the president should replace his Deputy, Senator Kashim Shettima, and bring in a strong Christian personality from the North to fly the APC flag with him in 2027.

He said Tinubu should have a heart to heart discussion with Shettima, even giving him the privilege of choosing who would be his successor.

Idimogu said, “I would like to advise my President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu on his running mate, this time the Vice President, I advise and I strongly advise that for 2027, I think you should look for a very strong Christian as your Deputy.

“For me, I am sure that a Muslim/Christian presidential candidate will be successful,” he said.

He emphasized that the ticket would give confidence to Muslims and Christians considering the fact that Nigeria is a secular country.

He said, “This will give Christians more confidence ahead of the 2027 Presidential Election.

“Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima has done well and is still doing well, not because he is a bad person or incapable but the fact is that Nigeria is a secular country, even though our party has used a Muslim/Muslim pair to come to power in 2023, but you know it is a very difficult and difficult decision, but I think the president should think about this, let’s elect a Muslim/Christian pair for the next president,” the politician said.

He further said, “The President is a good team builder, so I would suggest and advise that he have a tete a tete, a personal talk with Shettima, his Deputy, talk to him so that he will not feel disappointed or maligned. The two of them should have a heart to heart talk, in the interest of the party, they may even give him a chance to nominate a very strong Christian from the North who he thinks has political weight.

“It is also hoped that we need global support, from international bodies, countries, even from America, we need their support.

“President, please think about it, I think that is the best.

“In any case, you know better, but I would strongly advise, think about it, and bring along Shettima, your Vice President, so that he can stay with the party, he can work for the party, and there will be no disputes, in good faith, everything will go well. I am sure so. I hope our beloved president returns in 2027, our party wins, Asiwaju is strong, and God bless Nigeria,” he said.
