The former Super Eagles coach lost his bid to be Mourinho’s assistant at Real Madrid

Former Nigeria senior national team coach Jose Peseiro has lost his bid to become one of the assistants to new Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Peseiro helped Mourinho at the club during his first spell and was among the names touted in the media to join him on a further tour against the Spanish giants.

However, Mourinho has now chosen his former club midfielder Sami Khedira to work with him as his assistant, effectively ruling out Peseiro as one of his backroom staff.

The coach who led Nigeria to second place at the African Cup of Nations two years ago will now focus on maintaining his job at second division side Al-Ula FC in Saudi Arabia, where there are doubts over his future after failing to win promotion.

It is expected that in the coming days the management of the team that finished 4th in the regular season will make a statement.
