The police confirmed the arrest of Inec officials with N2.5M cash in the election of the Ogun

The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of two people identified as officials of the Independent National Election Commission (Inec) and others for alleged election violations.

A spokesman of the order, Omolaola Odutola, confirmed the news in a statement on Saturday in Abeokuta.

He said officials were arrested at Iperu Remo during the election of the Federal Remo Constituency.

Odutola said: “At 12:45 in the morning, the police patrol team, attached to the Iperu Remo division, intercepted the Mitsubishi space with AKD 887 HT registration number, with three residents.

“Officials were arrested with their drivers. Vehicle search caused N2.5 million cash recovery from one of the officials.

“During the interrogation, he acknowledged that the money was collected at the Kehoy Hotel, Iperu, from a man he called a ‘political solution,’ acts based on the direction of his superiors.

“Police Commissioner, Lanre Ogunlowo, has ordered the suspects to be transferred to the state CID, Eleweran, for a wise direct investigation.”
