The unfortunate loud mouth of Godswill Akpabio

Calabar (Core Reporters) God can bless you abundantly and still leave you with some hamartia – a literary terminology that describes a tragic flaw. Godswill Akpabio’s hamartia is his mouth, because he brings out the stupidest and most improbable putrid every time he opens it.

His jokes, usually off-key, are not entertaining. They vomit the black bile of wickedness into his hate-infested mind. No wonder his time as Senate President was completely tarnished by scandalous behavior that would normally be part of that lofty position.

Everyone knows that he hates Cross River State, that he despises the people and wishes in every waking hour that Cross River would be a stool to rest his cracked and scaly hooves, and to annihilate himself at will. Unfortunately, that will never happen.

And he knows we know it. He understands that we understand what he did. How he lies awake at night plotting to deny the state its legitimate claims to the shoreline. How he moved quantities of bullion to Abuja, as he also did when he was governor, to ensure that Cross River remained bound and chained to the floor. But this time he has to deal with Governor Bassey Otu.

As he described the demographics of Cross River State in favor of his preferred Akwa Ibom State, he is duty bound to also describe the circumstances surrounding their unfortunate arrival here. Aren’t there millions of blacks in America too who got there under the same circumstances as the Ibibios and Annangs in Cross River? I must add that some blacks in America have also become mayors of city councils, just as its people here too have become clan leaders despite their initial position.

Someone should tell the speaker that not all of his people in Cross River are clan leaders. Here too are laborers, concrete mixers and concrete mixers, carpenters, labourers, prostitutes and marginalized children of Scolombo. Their work gives us time and pleasure, because Okon will always be Okon, no matter how hard Okon tries.
