Ekiti at 30: Celebrating the hills closest to the sky by Toba Ojeniyi

Just like yesterday, three decades ago, we all came together in those last days of the first month of embers, seeking administrative convenience rather than separation of people.

We all came together, seeking a separate identity under the Nigerian sun.

Hitting the rock, climbing the hills, ’cause giving up is not an option,

We all gathered with stomachs full of emptiness and hearts full of requests, seeking the face of God, our Father, to come and do His wonders.
Because we know: “Eni ba maa b’esu jeun, sibi re a gun gan-an.”

After trusting in the Lord, our strength was renewed. We have become the talk of the town: “Ekiti becomes spiritual by state”.

And on that first day of the tenth month, it was on this day that the hill was erected by the second apple eater.

And now she has come to become, burdened by the fate she did not choose and the fate she cannot escape, due to her closeness to God and the gods.

We gathered, electing Honor from the Praises, followed by the Rock, the fried rice-eating deity, and then the Silent Oracle and the Gentle Warrior.

And now every day is Christmas, because our enemies would have rejoiced, but the God of the Hills did not allow it.

Today we celebrate the hills on the third floor, because the river flows peacefully in a strange way in Erijiyan.
Yes, you must be aware of the Arinta waterfall.

That there is a hot and cold water spring in Ikogosi Yes, both rivers meet peacefully to bring life to mankind.

Now tell me: why don’t we celebrate the third floor hill?

Today we celebrate the hills on the third floor because here lies the beauty of the mountains and hills.

That’s why we call ourselves “OLOKITI”.
Because in here Olosunta and the Orole Hills rise vehemently; in here, Abanijorin and Olokemeji sit confidently.

Ask Deji Fasuan: What do you see to place so much hope in a land called barren? And he will tell you

It is not the great nation that gives birth to great people; it is the great peoples who give life to the great nations.

From Olubummo numbers to Fajuyi story, our minds have shaped the nation.

From the carved wonders of Olowe to Osundare and Ojudu the pen of Lord

From the law of Afe Babalola to ABUAD, institutions were born from a land called barren

From Lady Jibowu to Osuntokun, scholars have been crowned with hard work.

From Wole Olanipekun to Opeyemi Bamidele, the voices of service have grown.

For the love of the nation, Oluyede di asa’ju ninu agbotiku ika yo.

For the love of the nation, Falana kò kọ́gbọ̀ tíe mọ́; tí gbogbo wa ló ńgbọ́ kiri. Those who call us sterile, Ifá wọn ti p’ohun dá.

Today we celebrate the hills on the third floor because our faith and destiny lie on the top of Ayoba mountain.

From the top of the mountain comes the idea that pays salaries in due time.

From the top of the mountain comes the idea that makes us fly high through Agro-Allied Airport.

From the top of the mountain comes the idea that creates a pathway for our agricultural products to find their way to market, so our sweet potatoes can become mashed potatoes!

From the top of the mountain comes the idea that brings smiles to the faces of pensioners.

From the top of the mountain comes the idea of building housing for investors.
From the top of the mountain comes the idea that provides vehicles for security operations.

Over there, on top of Ayoba mountain, we are proud to say:
Our faith, destiny and hope are safe with BAO.

Today we celebrate the hills on the third floor because we understand the role of women, who, too, can take the lead, not just in the kitchen and the other room, but in the decision-making process.

Because from the top of the mountain comes the idea that led Brain Behind BAO to start the Adire Hub.

From the top of the mountain comes the idea that made the widows say: “WOW!” in Baoress through WAOH Projects.

From the top of the mountain comes the idea that has wiped the tears from the eyes of the masses through grassroots communication.

Here, our meeting breathes prosperity.

Here, oun a ba jọ̀rọ̀, kí’pegun. Here, oun a sepo ni’leye.

Here at the top of the mountain we can assure you of comfort after passing through the Café of Ashes and the Termite Forest.

If the 14 sons of Olofin, son of Oduduwa, can find comfort here, then know this:

Whatever you invest here will not only grow like the cedar of Lebanon, but will also be as strong as the hills and mountains of Ikere.

Even though we are not there yet, not even close, we are no longer where we were before.

Things continue to get better because we have a governor who cares about us.

And today we celebrate the hill which is closer to God and gods than any other state in the federation.

If you don’t believe it, go to Ire and ask Ogun Onire.
If you do not believe, go to Efon-Alaaye and ask Prophet Ayo Babalola.
If you don’t believe, ask Jesus where he goes to meet God the Father and the prophets.
