Tinubu again chooses Shettima and submits APC nomination forms for the 2027 presidential race

President Bola Tinubu has formally kicked off his re-election campaign for the 2027 presidential elections after submitting nomination forms to the All Progressives Congress and retaining Vice President Kashim Shettima as his running mate.

This development has put to rest weeks of speculation on the composition of the APC presidential ticket ahead of the upcoming general elections.

Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Political Affairs, Ibrahim Masari, presented the nomination forms on behalf of the President and Shettima at a ceremony held on Friday at the Continental Hotel, Abuja.

The presentation officially confirms that Tinubu has once again chosen Shettima as his running mate as the ruling APC prepares for the 2027 presidential contest.

The event attracted prominent figures of the party, including governors elected on the APC platform, members of the National Working Committee, federal legislators, members of the Federal Executive Council and other stakeholders of the party.

Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, who is also the Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, led the APC governors at the event.

Masari, who addressed party leaders after submitting the forms, said the move marked the formal start of Tinubu’s bid for a second term in office.

Tinubu had initially nominated Masari as the interim vice presidential candidate in June 2022 while consultations on the party’s running mate were underway.

The President subsequently replaced Masari with Shettima, the immediate past governor of Borno State, who subsequently emerged as the APC vice-presidential candidate for the 2023 elections.

By retaining Shettima, Tinubu retained the same Muslim-Muslim ticket that ensured the APC’s victory in the 2023 presidential elections.
