President Bola Tinubu has appointed Mr Rilwan Babalola as Special Adviser on Electricity.
Babalola will also lead the newly created Presidential Task Force for Reset and Restoration of the Power Sector.
This was stated by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, in a statement on Thursday in Abuja.
The President also redesigned the Office of Special Advisor (Energy) to become a Special Advisor (Oil and Gas) to streamline its role in the energy governance framework.
Babalola, former Minister of Power, has extensive sectoral expertise and experience in addressing structural challenges in the power value chain.
The Presidency said the appointment underscored the president’s determination to encourage results-oriented change in the electricity sector.

It said that the Presidential Task Force would operate under a direct mandate to restore efficiency, discipline and commercial continuity across the sector.
This task force will also coordinate activities between related ministries, departments and institutions.
Its mandate includes pushing for a comprehensive system reset of the electricity sector and implementing a “performance before expansion” framework.
This is also expected to reduce technical, commercial and collection losses, while strengthening cost discipline and tariff integrity.
This task force will increase revenue security, increase sector liquidity and restore grid discipline and market integrity.
