Tinubu extends the terms of office of the heads of correctional and immigration services

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved an 18-month term extension for Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, Controller General of the Nigerian Correctional Service and Kemi Nanna Nandap, Comptroller General of the Nigerian Immigration Service.

With the approval, Nwakuche’s term will now end on May 26, 2028, while Nandap’s term will end on June 30, 2028.

According to a statement by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President, (Information and Strategy), the agreement, which followed the recommendation of the Minister of Home Affairs, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, addresses the succession gap in the two services and will provide enough time for the council to appoint a successor.

President Tinubu commended Nwakuche and Nandap for the reforms achieved under their leadership and tasked them with consolidating this progress.

President Tinubu nominated Nwakuche as Controller General of Correctional Services in December 2024. The Senate confirmed the appointment in March 2025.

He also nominated Kemi Nanna Nandap as Comptroller General of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) on 21 February 2024. The Senate confirmed the appointment on 1 March 2024.
