The President of the Tinubu Bola has revealed that the broom, who is now the symbol of the eternal of the Congress of All Progressive (APC), is a product of a passionate disagreement between him and the deceased former President of Muhammadu Buhari during the years of party formation.
Tinubu distributed backgrounds on Tuesday at the President’s villa in Abuja when receiving members of the Buhari organization, led by the former Governor of Nasarawa State, Senator Tanko Al-Makura. Reflects the 2013 mergers who gave birth to the ruling party,
Tinubu remembers how he and Buhari locked the horns on what symbols were most interesting to the spirit of the new coalition.
“We do not agree to agree … we even argue about symbols. He (Buhari) insisted in parliament, and I insisted on a broom. He was very stubborn,” Tinubu said with a laugh, pulling a warm reaction from the audience.
APC, which was officially registered in February 2013, was born from the merger of four opposition parties – Action Congress Nigeria (ACN), Congress for Progressive Changes (BPK), Alllianne Party (APGA) All Nigeria (APGA), and factions of all Large Progressive (APGA).
As the leader of the ACN and the former Governor of the State of Lagos, Tinubu encouraged the broom as a unifying symbol, while Buhari, then at the top of the BPK leadership, preferred the image of parliament. Party leaders finally settled in a broom, who came to represent collective actions, unity, and determination to sweep corruption and poor government.

Tinubu recognizes that the ideological difference between blocks often causes clashes, but the choice of broom is a turning point that strengthens the coalition’s determination. Party leaders praised the symbol by galvanizing the support of the grassroots which helped APC expel the old Democratic Party in the 2015 historic election, bringing Buhari to power.
The Tuesday meeting was attended by North APC numbers such as the Governor of State Katsina Dikko Radda and former Governor Aminu Masari, seen as an award for the legacy of Buhari and the performance of unity in the ruling party ahead of the 2027 general election.
