Tosan Blankson moves to men’s football and joins Calabar Rovers

Experienced Nigerian football coach Tosan Blankson has made a major move to men’s football, joining Nigeria National League (NNL) side Calabar Rovers FC from Cross River State.

Blankson, who has built an impressive career in Nigerian football, both as a player and manager, is expected to bring his wealth of experience to Calabar Rovers as the club seeks to return to the elite division of Nigerian football.

During his playing career, Blankson played for several top Nigerian clubs, including DSC Aladja, NNPC Warri, Bendel United, Rangers International, Iwuanyanwu Nationale, Plateau United, BCC Lions of Gboko and Calabar Rovers FC, among others.

His years in the field have given him valuable first-hand experience in team dynamics,
discipline, competition and tactical understanding, qualities which have continued to shape his approach to coaching.

Blankson then made her mark on women’s football, working with top clubs in the Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL), including Delta Queens FC and Rivers Angels.

His major successes include leading Delta Queens FC to victory in the 2023 NWFL Super Six tournament, where the team maintained an unbeaten record and topped the A table ahead of the emerging champions.

He also enjoyed success with the Rivers Angels, guiding the Port Harcourt-based club to FA Cup glory, further establishing his credentials as a coach capable of competing for major honours.

His return to Calabar Rovers FC, this time as a manager, therefore represents a significant new chapter in his football career.

The Cross River club will rely on Blankson’s extensive playing and coaching experience to build a competitive team capable of challenging for promotion.

With his knowledge of Nigerian football and his experience in both men’s and women’s football, Tosan Blankson is expected to spearhead Calabar Rovers’ ambition to return to the top flight of Nigerian football.
