Transition to the top: ACF confirms the exit of Senator Orti, Mai Sule and others

The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) leadership selection committee has confirmed the exit of some senior officials, following the expiry of their terms as part of an ongoing transition within the Forum.

In a statement issued to journalists in Kaduna on Saturday by the Chairman of the ACF Leadership Selection Committee, Brigadier General Haliru Akilu (rtd), the committee said it made recommendations to the Board of Directors (BOT) following deliberations on the tenure status of the officials concerned.

The BOT had earlier, at its meeting on April 11, 2026, reaffirmed that under the ACF Constitution, members of the Board of Directors serve a single term of six years, while members of the National Executive Committee (NEC) serve three-year terms, renewable for another three years, Blueprint.ng reports.

Based on this constitutional provision, the tenure of the officials concerned, who assumed office on March 10, 2020 and completed their six-year term on March 10, 2026, has expired.

Those affected include Senator F. Orti of Benue State, vice-chairman of BOT; Ambassador Ibrahim Mai Sule of Yobe State, Vice President of BOT; Senator Ibrahim Ida, Wazirin Katsina, NEC Vice President; and Mallam Murtala Aliyu, Muttawallen Gombe, Secretary General.

The commission observed that the posts have become vacant. He further said that Mallam Murtala Aliyu has been directed to conclude his handover notes and other exit formalities by Friday, May 15, 2026.

Regarding the filling of vacancies, the committee explained that the database of potential candidates has been updated. However, he said the selection and appointment of the new holders of three positions had been postponed pending the conclusion of the ongoing review of the ACF Constitution.

Meanwhile, Mallam Bukar Zarma has been appointed as acting secretary general to oversee the day-to-day administration of the Forum. His appointment will remain temporary until an effective secretary general is appointed.

The committee said the transition process is part of efforts to strengthen governance structures and ensure continuity within the Forum.
