Troops capture suspected terror boss in Zamfara market raid

Nigerian army troops have arrested a suspected terror kingpin, Kachalla Halilu, during a targeted intelligence-based operation in a busy market in Zamfara state, as security forces step up efforts to dismantle criminal networks in the northwest.

The suspect was arrested at Shinkafi Weekly Market by officers from the 8th Division Garrison following credible intelligence following his movement to the location.

Military sources said the troops mobilized quickly and carried out the operation without resistance, successfully taking Halilu into custody.

Items recovered from the suspect upon arrest include a motorcycle, mobile phone, cap and livestock medicine, raising suspicions over his operational mobility and logistical support within the region.

Security sources revealed that the suspect has since been handed over to military intelligence authorities for further interrogation and profiling.

“The troops acted promptly on the available information and carried out the arrest without a hitch,” a source close to the operation said.

The arrest is part of ongoing coordinated offensives by the Nigerian military aimed at dismantling terrorist cells, bandit enclaves and crime syndicates operating in Zamfara and neighboring states.

Investigations are currently underway to ascertain the true extent of Halilu’s involvement in terrorist activities, as well as to uncover possible collaborators and networks linked to him.

Zamfara state remains one of the epicenters of banditry and violent attacks in north-west Nigeria, with communities often targeted by armed groups involved in kidnappings, cattle rustling and mass killings.

In recent months, security forces have stepped up intelligence-led operations, resulting in a series of arrests and the neutralization of high-profile suspects as part of broader efforts to restore peace in the troubled region.
