Social media commentator Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has announced a temporary withdrawal from all social media platforms.
He explained that the decision follows allegations that its contents would distract young Nigerians from holding the government accountable.
In a video shared on his Instagram account, VDM said the move was aimed at allowing young Nigerians to fully focus on protests and civic responsibility without distractions.
“Due to allegations and accusations that it was my posts that distracted Nigerian youths from holding the government accountable, I have decided not to post on social media anymore during this period,” he said.
He also challenged other influencers, celebrities and activists to take control of the digital space in his absence.
According to him, “I would expect all the influencers, celebrities and activists to use this opportunity to take over, let’s watch and see.”
Speaking further on Pidgin, VDM stressed that he will completely withdraw from all platforms, including Facebook, Instagram and YouTube, stressing that he wants to give Nigerians the space to carry out protests and civic activities while he remains in the shadows.
