In new video, Boko Haram gives Nigerian government 72-hour ultimatum over 416 Borno hostages

The Boko Haram sect has given a 72-hour ultimatum to the Federal Government to meet its demands for the 416 people kidnapped in Borno State.

In a video released by the terror group on Sunday, the terrorists challenged the federal government to carry out forced rescue efforts of the victims.

The video was seen by journalists on Monday.

The terrorists wearing military camouflage threatened to kill the hostages if the government failed to meet their demands in the final ultimatum.

They expressed their readiness for total war with the army if the government chose to use force rather than meet their demands.

The terrorists on Sunday demanded a ransom of N5 billion to free the hostages.

“Today, April 19, 2026, we issued a new message to the Southern Borno Youth Alliance and the government of Nigeria, which we do not recognize as our government. This is our first and last message. We are giving you 72 hours.

“If our demands are not met, we will move the victims, including women and children, to different locations. Everyone. You have made your decision, and we have made our decision. We instruct you, for the sake of Allah, not to exceed the specified time.”

“And look at them before we do, because you may never see them again. If the government believes it can save them by force, you are free to try. We depend on Allah.

“Let this message get to the South Borno Youth Alliance and the Nigerian government. We are not acting lightly. This is our message,” the group’s spokesperson said in the video.

In a special message to mark World Environment Day 2026, Badmos stressed that protecting the environment remains a shared responsibility that cannot be left to government alone, but must be driven by deliberate individual and community actions. He noted that the annual global observance serves as a reminder of the urgent need to safeguard the environment from worsening climate conditions, pollution and ecological degradation. “This year’s celebration reminds us that protecting the environment is not the exclusive responsibility of governments and institutions; it is a collective duty that begins with individual actions,” he said. The NES President urged members of the Abeokuta chapter to set an example by planting at least one tree each in their homes, workplaces or communities, describing tree planting as a practical step towards environmental sustainability. According to him, a single tree plays a critical role in carbon sequestration, air purification, erosion control, biodiversity conservation and broader climate change mitigation efforts. It also encouraged members to document and share evidence of their tree planting activities as part of efforts to promote responsibility and inspire broader public participation in environmental management. “The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago; the second best time is now,” Badmos said, urging immediate action rather than continued delays in addressing environmental challenges. He expressed optimism that sustained efforts to plant trees would help make Abeokuta greener, Ogun State healthier and Nigeria more resilient to environmental risks.
