
Diaspora Youruba: Africa at the crossroads of history, says Alaafin
The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade, said Africa is today at the crossroads of history to lead a liberating revolution in the production, dissemination and utilization of knowledge.
A statement released on Thursday by its director of media and publicity, Bode Durojaiye, quoted Alaafin as he addressed the Yorùbá diaspora at the State University of Bahia (UNEB), Brazil.
The Alaafin said: “The utilitarian value of education must be our concern now more than ever, as the deep will begin to call the deep in an all-encompassing enterprise, to demonstrate the excellence and leadership of the Yoruba race in knowledge, production, dissemination and application.”
Oba Owoade added that Yoruba indigenous knowledge finds application and relevance in all spheres of human endeavor and forms the basis of development, adding that the basic culture and civilization that the Yoruba built still endures and has remained the core of political, economic, religious and intellectual development to this day.
