Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has assured the mother of the slain supporter in Enugu that she has another child with him.
Speaking in Enugu at the burial of the late NDC supporter who was allegedly killed by political opponents, Obi offered to send the monthly salary his son usually sent to his grieving mother.
The NDC presidential candidate has promised to send the grieving mother 15 months salary until December 2027.
“My humble promise to the mother is that God Almighty, who was pleased to bring Ifeanyi home, also gave her another child in me to support her, as Ifeanyi did,” he said.
Writing on his handle
The late Ifeanyi Nwolie was one of my supporters who participated in the recent political activity of the NDC party marked by violence on 10 October 2026.
Tragically, he was shot. His death is a painful reminder of the devastating human cost of our nation’s current toxic political environment.
The NDC presidential candidate appealed to his supporters: “As we approach the 2027 general elections, I appeal to all candidates contesting at the federal, state and local government levels to reject violence, ethnic division and religious bigotry.
“Our campaigns and activities must be based on issues that will make our country better. Democracy thrives when citizens can freely express their political choices and participate in the electoral process without fear. The process by which we obtain public office is more important than the office itself.
“My humble promise to the mother is that God Almighty, who was pleased to bring Ifeanyi home, has also given her another child in me to support her, as Ifeanyi did.
“The greatest strength of a country lies in the rule of law. When the rule of law is undermined, it opens the door to disorder and anarchy.
“We must work together to rebuild and restore a Nigeria where human life is valued above political ambitions and where every citizen can exercise their democratic rights in peace and security. A new Nigeria is possible.”
